Meeting at the Câmara on Sunday 12.10.08 6.00pm
Report on the Meeting at the Câmara on Sunday 12.10.08 6.00pm
Present from the Câmara were The President, his Assistant, his Secretary and the Vice President.
Amovate were represented by Peter Johnson, John Wilson and Liz Wilson.
Also present were four other members of the public.
There were a number of issues raised by Peter on behalf of Amovate members and residents of Vale da Telha and the surrounding areas.
The President of the Câmara stated that there is a new plan being devised for the Vale da Telha area, in conjunction with other government departments, and a number of issues, including sewerage, the development of green areas, underground cabling and road and pavement development will not be undertaken until the new plan is finalised.
The issues raised by Peter are as follows:
As there have been a number of accidents in the past there is a need for roundabouts at the following junctions:
Where the road from Vales meets the main Vale da Telha road (by the Amovate headquarters)
On the main road from the Pinetrees Roundabout towards Monte Clerigo, where the road divides, there is already a triangle junction there.
The overall condition of the roads and the need for more than ongoing temporary repairs.
The need for pavements being completed and maintained and services being underground.
Builders Rubbish being left at domestic bins.
By law on all new buildings the rubbish must be removed by the builders. The Câmara propose to develop 7 or 8 points in Vale da Telha that will have more adequate recycling facilities (e.g for wood, garden clippings, building materials). It is hoped that this will alleviate the pressure on the domestic bins.
Bus service from Aljezur through Vale da Telha to Monte Clerigo and Arrifana.
The Câmara are currently having consultations with EVA (the bus company).
There was previously a service from Aljezur to Arrifana (by-passing Vale da Telha) but passenger numbers at the time made the service unviable.
Street Lighting.
There are a number of broken lights and a number of people still waiting for the installation of a light outside their house.
The number of electricity cutouts and surges and the damage to peoples equipment.
The Câmara recommended that we do a report to EDP regarding these issues.
Extension of Motorway and Aljezur bypass.
The extension of the motorway is already on the Master Plan for the area, however the Câmara can give no indication of when or if it will be started or completed.
There is a plan submitted for the Aljezur bypass. This is still under consideration.
Increase in water bills.
There has been no increase in the cost of water. There is an additional tax on all water bills in order to cover the cost of all services provided by the Câmara.
Water Quality.
The Câmara were very surprised that people would query the quality of water in the area. The water is supplied by Águas do Algarve and has the best water quality in all of Portugal.
